Children Reading Movement

To popularise the habit of reading good books among children

Welcome to adaiyaalam's Site

This is the logo of CHILDREN's READING MOVEMENT.
This is an initiative of ADAIYAALAM, an organization working for the deprived community of our society.

The children's reading movement (we call in our  tamil language as ARUMBUGAL VAASIPPU IYAKKAM) aims to create the habit of reading books among the children.

In our society there is a tradition of telling stories to children by grand parents. But nowadays the television tells them stories, not the grand parents.

The libraries run by government or some private institutions are not properly utilized by educated people in India.

The children going to schools in tamilnadu state of India are very close to school text books rather than story books.

The stories, world classics, fairy tales, comics will develop creativity in the children.
But the parents fill the minds of the children with "their dreams". The children cannot able to enjoy the childhood days.

We are in a mission of bringing books nearer to the children.

To achieve this we do some activities:
* Formation of reading clubs in villages.
* Conducting story writing, story telling competitions
   &  Reading festivals occasionally.
* Encouraging the children to utilize the government
   libaries near by.
* Establishing village level children libraries.

In the
village level children library
we give some story cards, story books to the children.
The children themselves maintain the transaction of books. Once in a week they meet and discuss about the content of the book they read, story telling, enacting the story in a skit format, singing group songs, some games.

Any individual or oraganization can join with us
in this noble cause.
